You can tune instruments connected to your system with the Tuner utility. This process ensures that your external instrument recordings are in tune with any software instruments, samples, or existing recordings in your projects.

The Tuner contains the following parameters:

• Graphic Tuning display: Indicates the pitch of the note in cents. At the centered (12 o’clock) position, the note is correctly tuned. If the indicator moves to the left of center, the note is flat. If the indicator moves to the right of center, the note is sharp. Color is also used to indicate tuning accuracy—green indicates a tuned note, orange indicates a note that’s off pitch.

• Reference Tuning field: Drag vertically to set the pitch of the note used as the basis for tuning. The default is for note A at 440 Hz and can be set in a range from 410 to 470 in 0.1 Hz steps.

• Keynote display: Shows the target pitch of the note being played (the closest tuned pitch).

• Tune Deviation display: Shows the tuning deviation in cents.

• Mute button: Click to mute.

Use the Tuner

1. Click the Tuner button in the control bar.

2. Play a single note on the instrument and watch the Graphic Tuning and Keynote displays. If the note is flat or sharp of the keynote, orange segments are shown in the Graphic Tuning display. The Keynote is shown in orange, and the Tune Deviation display indicates how far (in cents) the note is off pitch.

3. Adjust the tuning of your instrument until the indicator is centered in the Graphic Tuning display and the Tune Deviation field shows zero (0 cents).

   The Graphic Tuning display and Keynote are shown in green when the instruments are correctly tuned.

Sound packs can contain different types of content, including the following:

In the Sound Library, you can download and manage sound packs on your iPhone. Each sound pack has an icon and a name that shows a brief description and preview button when you tap it.

Notifications on your iPhone and numbered badges in GarageBand indicate that new or updated sound packs are available in the Sound Library. New sound packs have a badge labeled New, and sound packs already installed are labeled Downloaded.

Some sound packs may also be needed to perform certain tasks, such as opening a GarageBand song created on another device. In this instance, a message appears, asking if you want to download the required sound pack.

• Tap the Browser button , swipe left or right, then tap Sound Library.

Manage sound packs

You can manage downloaded sound packs to free up storage space on your iPhone. The total amount of space used for all installed sound packs is shown at the top of the list. The size of each individual sound pack is shown in the list. You can delete sound packs whether or not your iPhone is connected to the Internet.

1. Open the Sound Library and tap Manage Packs in the upper-left corner.

2. Do either of the following:

   • Delete a sound pack: Tap Edit at the upper-right, tap the Delete button next to the sound pack you want to delete, then tap Delete. Alternatively, you can swipe left on the sound pack, then tap Delete.

   • Download a sound pack: Tap Get next to the sound pack you want to download.

1. Close GarageBand, then open the Settings app.

2. Tap Notifications, scroll down, then tap GarageBand under Notification Style.
